There is a dead skunk in the street on Grand Avenue in front of the Fair Haven Community Health Center. Animal Control says it will cost $100 to remove...but it is in the street and not on private property.

You must have called a private animal control company that gave a quote to remove the deceased animal.
Animal Control in the City of New Haven does NOT pick up deceased animals, you would have been referred to contact Public Works @ (203) 946-7700. If the animal is still there give them a call in the morning and they will dispatch someone to pick it up.
FYI .... There only risk of disease from a deceased animal in the road is if you decide to pick it up with your bare hands, and that risk would be very minimal.
