I got a parking ticket on central ave, and noticed a few minutes later the meter man was being yelled at. is it really necessary to yell at him? just go pay it and carry on.
Although I don't agree with yelling at people who are just doing their job, if the city wants to help the downtown area, they will get rid of the meters. I don't shop there for that reason. Why should I when I can go numerous other places in the city where I don't have to pay for parking?
Come on!! Yuo dont stop in downtown PA for the parking meters? I takes 25 cents to park down there! I dont go down there for more obvious reasons, it's scary!!! Why does every social agency have to be downtown? Until they change that, downtown will hurt.
My only issue with "meter men" in PA is I have, on more than one occasion, witnessed the meter man literally leaning on a parking meter WAITING for the meter to run out...this isn't seconds he waits....I watched him one day for curiosity sake and I could see him from my work window...he actually stood there 10 mins watching someone's car! Wow! Is this what they get paid to do???
lucky, .25 cent is pretty cheap for parking, and it seems like there are meter all over , no matter what city you go to. I kinda think that the meter man would not be getting paid to stand and watch the cars for ten minutes, if a person has time to watch the meter man, what does he get paid to do? lol..
ya except when you feed the meter and you see them standing there waiting for it to expire! i call that greedy don't they have others to check in the meantime. somebody should do that to them............
I don't think that the meter man makes money on there meters anyway? I think that's kinda being paranoid if people think the meter man is only watching ones particular meter to expire.
It's not the 25 cents that keeps me from parking downtown. It's the problem of having to keep coming back on time to reload the silly thing or risk a fine. I will just do business somewhere else so that I can take however much time I want to shop.
i see people are still complaining about the meters??...if the meters were gone do you realy think you would be able to get to the place you want to shop at?...eg, banks....the meters are there to keep the traffic moving...small shops cant make a living when someone parks in front of thier store all day eg, other shops parking in front of "competitors"...and yes this does happen...i handed out tickets way back in the 80s and wow...i was shocked on how many people try to trick or jam the meters or use toy coins...for a quarter realy??...one guy even filled a washer with solder to use as a quarter (solder cost alot more)...at that time there was also complaints of one of our guys waiting for the meters to run out..they had the police follow him for a month...now thats our taxes being used huh??...anyway the guy never did do that..maybe this new guys was talking to someone??...or maybe the person had problems with thier car and couldnt lock it??...(still not his job)...but who realy knows what he was doing??...one time i got yelled at for giving a ticket to a car when there was time on the meter...i asked the person yelling, is it normal for people to hug the wall when passing a parked car when the sidewalk is over 4 feet wide?...the ticket was for illegal parking and not for the meter...and also i should mention...manye people ran up to me with thier tickets and most cases the ticket did not match thier car...make model or plate number, what was going on was that some people put thier tickets on other parked cars, so...check to see if the ticket is in fact yours...if not, simply trash it or bring it into the police and they will handle it...ive seen poeple doing this and took the ticket in (with a note on back) to the polce and these people were charged for it!!....so, make sure to tell your friends to do the same..allways check them!!
People who have never been to another downtown, have no idea how good we have it in Prince Albert. Parking fees are minimal. The distance from any particular parking stall to your destination business is minimal. Parking fines are minimal. People do not shop downtown for their toilet paper and milk. People shop downtown for an experience that they do not receive anywhere else. People shop downtown in order that they might find something unique, special, and different. When I am in other cities I always make a point to explore their downtown. It is in these places that I find some of the most interesting merchandise and people. On one of my trips to a downtown, I spent the whole day exploring the shops it had to offer. I began at a Japanese tea house where everything was fresh and pressed to order. (lose tea must be done in a french press) I then proceeded to find a toy store that had things I had never seen in my life. (ps, the suckers that say they make you @#$%, do not....not a fun prank at all) The uniqueness just kept coming, and I enjoyed it all day. These are definitely not places for wal-mart fanatics.
I enjoy inexpensive, normal, everyday merchandise as much as the next person, but shopping at those stores is like work. One must experience life! Shop outside of the box! Browse to enjoy, not for cost and necessity. Downtowns are about community and togetherness. It is a place for people to gather, to eat, to shop, to live. It's a place outside of the norm, and a place to adventure. It's a place many people have never discovered, or because of rumour are afraid to. Downtowns are places I love to be.
With all that said. Don't yell at the parking metre guy. How would you like it if I came to your place of work and started screaming at you? As Laura said, PAY YOUR FIVE BUCKS....and have a nice day:)
the meter Girl and Guy here in P.A. used to follow my buddy around waiting for him to park, just so they could ticket him, as he was a salesman and needed to make multiple quick stops.
they don't ticket DHL or Purolator when they block the road, so I told him he should get a sign and just park in the lane like everyone else
Couriers DO get tickets if they block a road, trust me. Plus, they pay about 70 or 80 dollars a year per vehicle for the privelage of parking in so called unloading zones. Check your facts, because they're incorrect.
