Description
THis intersection is one example but should be for the entire city, nobody knows how to press the button underneath the sign that says "Push button to cross" instead you have people who waltz right out in front of you. I nearly hit 2 pedestrians this week alone at this intersection because people just walk right out in front of you and you have a green light. Seeing how law enforcement can't enforce these (or won't) perhaps the city should make the signs bigger, put a voice activated unit in so it could say something like "Wait your turn dummy", or altogether save the tax payers money and rip out every crosswalk signal in the city because nobody uses them! They rather get hit by a car it seems.

The button isn't designed to immediately halt all traffic. It merely lets the computer know to give you the "cross" signal on the next cycle of signal changes.
Also, the "cross" signal flashes red as a warning the light will change. It doesn't mean you have to stop crossing. You should be about halfway across the street when the signal begins flashing.

The law states however if the crosswalk signal does not work and you have waited and not been given right of way, you cross when it is safe to with the flow of traffic (In other words the light across from you is green) and nobody does this
Had one clown yesterday up on Union and Hammond push the button for cross but because it was not instant, she crosses anyways, then traffic got held up with red lights while the crosswalk signals went off.
The tax dollars saved on maintenance, programming, installing etc can be used to start sending ambulances out to pick people up off the road, send them to the hospital.
