Not to defend the city and the timming, but all of those sensors that they use to monitor and control the lights make timming almost a impossibility as there is no real set pattern as to when the next lights will change.
I have drove cab for many years and there is no way you can go from 12th. street to Marquis Rd. or vis-versa on 2nd. Ave. without hitting a red. It does not matter what speed you drive. These lights seem to change at random.
Actually the timing of the lights can be set to increase orderly traffic flow along second ave....it just hasn't been done...it's been that way on Central for years. When i used to work down there you could stand on 15th and look down central and watch each light change about a second after each other...one of the main problems on second is having 2 traffic lights within such close proximity of each other, one almost at the bottom of the bridge then another half a block away.
they want it that way so u have to think about shopping those places where u r stuck at the light. why else would it b that way even on the busiest of days
How expensive is it to change the timing on these traffic lights? Maybe they don't have that technology available, so if that is the case then we might as well close this issue. If they can't figure out how to solve minor problems, then I guess we can kiss thoughts of a second bridge goodbye.
@ Dag, I know they used to have these lights in sequence, however from what I understand the computer software is in the 40 - 50,000 price range. The reason we cant use the software we had before is because it is not compatible with current computer operating systems.
what software is needed lights must be on a timer already how hard can it be set the times??? so if u drive down 15st and drive speed limit hit all green lights . same with 2ave
