Thanks for your report. This is on private property and not regulated by the City of Cambridge.

If heading East along Pemberton Street one is lead to believe, due to this sign, that Pemberton Street from that poing on is not a thru way, and that children will be playing on it. That's very incorrect and should be addressed. Possibly the sign could be rotated to face Verdun Street traffic, or, better still, be removed as it appears to be official when in reality it is a psuedo-official traffic sign. It's a blight.

I would concur with the previous comment. A sign, even on private property, should not be turned toward the street to imply that a car would not be able to enter the street. It is a private way, but it is still accessible by the public. I agree with the blight comment as well.
We've reviewed this location and believe that it is offset enough to not interfere with traffic operations on Pemberton St. As it is private property, the city has no jurisdiction over the signage posted.

Please review this article. My understanding is the sign is not exempt due to the fact that it faces the street. In addition, who may I contact to determine it is installed on private property? It is a private way, not private property. If you allow this, does that mean I can erect a sign in my yard stating anything?

It is one thing to post an illegal sign showing how entitled you are and that your children need to be more protected than others and that they are at play. It is quite a different thing to post an illegal sign stating no thru way which lends itself to imply that if a driver turns into the private way, the may be in danger. The sign is not enforceable, it is illegal and it is a blight. I am wondering if the same individuals have the ubiquitous "STUDENT DRIVER" stickers plastered on their back window just below the SPAM sticker and the MOTORCYCLES ARE EVERYWHERE sticker.

We've reviewed the zoning ordinance regarding signs and we do not believe this sign is in violation of the code.
