Is true if the reflector posts by the bike lane around the corner on Edgewood Avenue. Just because the intention of the planners of having both the planter boxes and reflector posts so close to traffic is to “slow or calm” traffic, doesn’t mean all drivers will actually slow their speed. Obviously, many do not.
"Obviously" the bicyclistas were paid too much attention to.

It will NEVER get better and the taxpayers won't pay for it.

Good morning all. Have a look at the photo attached and use your imagination to visual a portion of the solution to address the confusing, misaligned intersection. The planter boxes are being hit head on - only one woman in a BMW X5 decided to veer out the bike lane to allow her vehicle to straddle the wire running through the wooden posts. What no one wants to acknowledge is the culture of speeding and red light running the city has created. The entire system citywide malfunctions. Having a small, clear raised platform at Yale and Edgewood Avenues would delineate the bike versus vehicle lanes.
Hi everyone. I was dismayed to find that mess some weeks ago when I drove through the area one night. I got a shovel and cleaned it as best as I could, with the rain falling and in the dark. I put out a cone to make it easier to see the debris. The Edgewood principal put out some more cones the next day. I'm no forensic accident analyst, but whatever vehicle smashed those three boxes was going pretty fast in a big vehicle.
Our New Haven, I don't think the Yale Avenue project has cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or taken five years. You're probably thinking of the Edgewood Avenue project, which has been funded by a combination of state and local dollars. It was first delayed by many months, and then once going, its implementation has proceeded very slowly.
I think for vehicles and cyclists entering that block of Yale Avenue, it can be difficult at times to understand how the road is split between automotive and non-automotive lanes. I will talk with City staff about how to improve that area. I think it will make more sense, certainly for drivers heading north on Yale and crossing Edgewood, for the rest of the project to be implemented. The reconfiguration of Yale from West Rock to Edgewood is supposed to continue south all the way to Derby Avenue. That should improve the situation.
Who is the "coordinator of resident services?" I cannot find this position on the city website. Anonymous city officials should not be closing issues that have not been addressed. We expect this mess to be cleaned up and we expect transparency and accountability.
Thanks for your feedback. Its a new role - recognize we should add to the CAO website. Replaces the old Resident Services PIO position that was at DPW but only focused on the one department. Working with TTP on long term plans for these instalations.
Thank you for the clarification. Although, the reclassification suggests an even longer delay in addressing this problem. It should not take years to clean up this mess.
Unless there was another accident since last Tuesday the debris are gone. Will go through again either tonight or tomorrow to review. Re-opened based upon the feedback and that underlying concern of continued cleanup needs.
Complete incompetence from the City - $200 Million from the Feds and State and another $50 million from tax increases and the city can't figure out how to fix a dangerous corner by a grade school.
