It's unfortunate. This also happens on Hazelton and Plymouth where it's between 8pm and 3am. Contacted the police but nothing is resolved. Also being harassed and bullied by the neighbors that disrespects everyone on the block. Like what can we do to make Redford better? We are scared to call the police because they have ratted us out to neighbors while calling anonymously. Sorry this happening to you. We have been residence to Redford for over 35 years.

Hi Bumblebee23. Thanks for your reply. I am sorry you are having the same issue. I just do not understand why the Police do not write a ticket? They ask do I want to file a complaint. Do they not understand that puts a target on my house. Maybe there would be no retribution, but I am not going to bet on that.

The Police do not need a complaint to write a ticket for speeding. Why do they want one for loud music?

There has to be an ordinance that says going over so many decibels(loudness) - is illegal? Right? Especially at a later hour, like midnight. Or later. Iknow other neighbors have called, as they have said so.

Anon, I am actually going to look into it. On the Redford Township website in the drop down menu is Ordinances. I mean there's strict rules for fireworks, right? We had a complaint of loud music and public intoxication in the street and technically passed 11pm it is not allowed. But nobody listens and once the cops are called it's a warning but when it's a week later and the
Cops are called, it's another warning. It's like they just don't give in and write a ticket. I agree with you, tickets should be given just like when you're property is not maintained. I'm sorry this is causing so much drama. Keep us updated! I would like to see change!

This is where I found that any loud music, shouting, whistling is prohibited between the hours of 11pm and 7am in Redford Township.

Sec. 38-27. - Penalty.

(a)

Any person violating any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction, be punished as prescribed in section 1-11 of this Code.

(b)

In addition to the penalties provided in subsection (a) of this section, any condition caused or permitted to exist in violation of any of the provisions of this article shall be deemed a new and separate offense for each day that such condition continues to exist.

Sec. 1-11 - General penalty for violation of Code; continuing violations.

(a)

Unless another penalty is expressly provided by another township ordinance, enacted after April 1, 1994, for any particular provision or section, every person convicted of a violation of any township ordinance, or any rule or regulation adapted or issued pursuant thereto shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $500.00 and costs of prosecution, or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each act of violation and every day upon which any such violation shall occur shall constitute a new and separate offense.

(b)

Violations of any provision of this Code designated a municipal civil infraction as that term is used in section 21 of Public Act 359 of the Public Acts of 1947, as amended by Public Act 13 of the Public Acts of 1994 (MCL 42.21) and section 8701-8735 of Public Act 12 of the Public Acts of 1994 (MCL 600.8701—600.8735) shall pay a fine as provided in the Code section being violated or, if not provided in the Code section, as set by separate resolution of the township board and shall be subject to costs, damages, expenses, collection and prosecution as provided in sections 8727 and 8735 of Public Act 12 of the Public Acts of 1994 (MCL 600.8727 and MCL 600. 8735) which sections are hereby incorporated by reference under the authority of Public Act 359 of the Public Acts of 1947, as amended (MCL 42.23). Each act of violation and every day upon which any such violation shall occur shall constitute a new and separate offense.

(c)

In addition to the penalties provided in subsection (a), the township may enjoin or abate any violation of the township ordinances by appropriate action.

I saw a posting in a Redford Township Neighborhood Watch FACEBOOK group, where the moderator says this topic came up at a Redford Watch meeting, and the community was told that the individual need to file a specific complaint with the police BEFORE ANY TICKETS COULD BE ISSUED!

I am in complete disbelief by that position. DO they want us to put ourselves in danger by being the person on the block that complains about loud music? It's like putting a target on our own house! This is not an acceptable policy. Police can write tickets any time they want.

Their is not even a stipulations of a certain decibel level that needs to be crossed. Section 13 even says if it is loud enough to be heard at 50 feet - then it is illegal. Write a ticket, officer!

Do you see it the same way as I do?

I am thinking about going down in person and having a private conversation with whomever is in charge of our Police.
