I have had the same issue - cars from both lanes on southbound Eckington Pl NE are turning into same lane to get onto 50E/50W/1st St NE. This is causing many near misses, severely clogged traffic (including clogs bad enough to prevent ambulances and fire trucks from getting through), and angry drivers. Also agree with JD - this is one of the worst traffic patterns around the Wendy's. Will only get worse as there will be many many more cars using the "traffic triangle" with the opening of the new Trilogy apartments in Eckington and all the new buildings going up in the area. The whole intersection must be redesigned completely. I suggest removing the Wendy's, and/or creating flyover streets/bridges. There is no reason all the traffic from Florida Ave and Hwy 50 needs to be dumping into the NoMa/Eckington neighborhoods.

This particularly an issue with FedEx trucks using the wrong lane and crossing over from the westbound FL ave lane to drive into the NY Ave lane. As a pedestrian in the area, cars often block the crosswalk at eckington and FL Ave. as a driver, it's unsafe because drivers drivers will block traffic on westbound FL ave to squeeze into the land designated for the traffic circle. Why can't a police officer or traffic director stand here in the mornings and periodically throughout the day to see the madness? Having law enforcement present over time to show people proper usage of the lanes may help prevent this issue. Some people honestly don't get it. Unless you know the area , you may not know which way is eastbound or westbound. Why not label the right lane on eckington "right turn only" and the left lane "traffic circle only". No one can quickly read the current sign and make a lane change in time because as of now, the sign instructing drivers of the lane designation is only about 50 feet from the intersection.

Better and overhead signage needs to be put up as well. Something serious needs to be done or someone is going to get killed trying to make a right turn!!!

The signage at this intersection is the worst in the city. The timing of the lights is bad too.
