This picture is also looking EASTBOUND on 2nd St from BEFORE / WEST of TAMALPAIS. Note the signal at HETHERTON is RED while BOTH the signals at TAMALPAIS AND the SMART train are BOTH STILL GREEN. Therefore not only feeding EB 2nd St traffic coming from Shaver - Lincoln with a GREEN LIGHT into a RED LIGHT but note that because the signal at Hetherton is RED, EB 2nd traffic
despite having a GREEN light at BOTH Tamalpais AND the SMART Train has NO place to go. Therefore as you can see in this picture drivers were NOT expecting a RED light at Hetherton and consequently cars are stopped ON THE SMART TRAIN track!! This is NOT safe!! In fact it’s VERY DANGEROUS!! Note the “wait time” traffic had until the light finally turned GREEN at Hetherton varied from cycle to cycle. Anywhere from 20-50 seconds. NEVER the same two cycles in a row. This SAME scenario is also playing out on the WEEKDAY MID DAY DIAL{1000h - 1530h}. Tho the length of the disruption is NOT as extensive as the disruption on the “AFTER 1900h dial”. Currently on the WEEKDAY MID DAY DIAL{1000h - 1530h} EB 2nd St receives a RED light at Hetherton approximately five seconds BEFORE the signals at Tamalpais and the SMART train. And with NO SMART Train preempts. Again because traffic catches a RED Light at Hetherton BEFORE Tamalpais and the SMART train traffic ends up stopping on the SMART train tracks. And again this is NOT safe! It’s DANGEROUS!!
